Hi Evert and family,
I was saddened to hear of Barb’s passing.
She hired me at Eaton’s around 1977. She was the manager I most looked up to and who, later in my role as manager, I tried to emulate. There wasn’t a job she would ask one of her employees to do that she wasn’t willing to do herself.
One of my favourite memories was working with her one Boxing Day, reducing boxed Christmas cards with a red pen. No automatic reductions at the cash register. We started very early in the morning and as the doors in Westmount were opening she knew to expect an onslaught of bargain-hungry customers and simply yelled “Run” to me to avoid being trampled.
She was a kind person. She managed with fairness and compassion mixed with just the right amount of fun. The world is better for her place in it.
Sincerely,
Grace (Vandelaar) Hebb

Barb was like mom number two to me as a child. Jesse and I had a lot of fun growing up at the Kluwer’s where we had ice cubes in our soup, played in the bush, made crafts (Jillian Jiggs pigs), going to cottage in Owen Sound and Quebec. Barb and mom took us on so many adventures - all the beaches, parks, plays, fashion shows, sugar bushes, train rides. Barb taught me the importance of seatbelts - I was being a bit of a brat about wearing one (that memory makes me laugh). She got mad at me and Kristen for crashing the old bike into the tree at the cottage - we laughed until we cried on that day. Her and mom put up with ‘the hormonal storm’ soccer team for a summer. We had a crazy good childhood and Barb was a big part of it. As a grown up I still always look forward to dropping in on the holidays to visit with my lifelong friends. Barb and E joined Kate and I down in Costa Rica with our new babies and that was lovely. E has been like dad number 2 and I will be dropping in as soon as I can to see him. I never wished anyone to feel this kind of pain and loss of which I am acutely familiar with. I miss you Barb. Much love to the family.

A tribute to our Dear Friend Barb...
As we step into Spring Barb would be getting itchy about her hunt for rhubarb. She would be on the ready with a little knife and plastic bag just in case she sited a 'patch'. Barb would make the best rhubarb treats for her Friends - crumble, cake and stew. We never questioned her where she found her rhubarb.
Bill and I had the opportunity to travel with Barb and Evert over the years. Barb was always up for an adventure and a hike!
We trekked Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland, Saguenay and Mal Baie in Quebec and the Haida Gwaii forests. If someone felt the path was too long or steep she would motivate us all to keep going.
Barb was a Food Goddess! She could whip up dinner for 10 or more - usually lamb - with new recipes for all to try.
We will miss Barb but we are grateful for all the beautiful memories and her infectious smile!
Sending healing energy to Evert and your beautiful family.
In Joy and Love,
Barb and Bill Kunz

Everett, Doug and Ulla and Joanne,
Barb was a brilliant person (although Doug and I did torment her from time to time when we were kids!) but she was always a friend to the whole Lockhart family and we are all so sad for your loss. She will be sadly missed.

Evert and family
Our deepest sympathy to all of you for your loss. Barb became a friend two years ago when we moved back to Delaware. I had the pleasure of being a "Hiker Chick" with her, going to the same exercise class, Friday night meat draws, occasional skates in Komoka and various outings. She welcomed me and included me in everything. She was truly a beautiful person. I feel so blessed to have had her friendship. I just wish it could have been longer. She will be part of my best memories. Thinking of all of you during this very difficult time.

Barb was always a brightness in any room or group. All communities that were touched by Barb feel deep loss but no more than her cherished family and closest friends. May the words and love shared hold you close and lifted during this most difficult time and the treasured memories sustain you into the distant future.

My condolences to Evert and family. I am grateful to have shared many dinners, theatre performances and some cookie exchanges with Barb. Barb was always so hospitable at her home. Our heartfelt wishes and condolences to Evert and family. We have shared so many wonderful times throughout the years.
SO much so, that our children, Tara and Hayley consider them family, growing up together and spending skiing vacations and many long weekends with our friends. So many memories.
Yes, the Roaring Twenties party was a fabulous event hosted by Barb and Evert, one we will remember for a long time.
Our organizer and planner of many activities and best friend since meeting at Ryerson. Barb is taking a much needed rest.
Much love to the entire family.

Barb and Evert have been such an important part of our lives with their ongoing unconditional friendship that is so rare these days. Barb was certainly the leader in making things happen in a fashion that everyone was sure to enjoy, the example being the Roaring 20's party. She never hesitated to make you feel welcome in her home, always with that friendly smile. She was exceptionally proud of her loving family, the kids and the grandkids. We are fortunate to have know Barb, to have shared a lot of laughs with her and to have been part of her social network. She will definitely be missed but she has left us with some very fond memories that will last forever. We share the lost that her family, and Evert will now experience...but the void will be filled with Barb's spirit as we move forward. Our deepest condolences to the family, Evert, Katie, Bryan, Marty and all the grandkids.

This came across a cousins facebook page and I realized she was my favourite teacher from studying fashion merchandising at Fanshawe College 1988-1991. Barb was always full of energy and smiling and always made our subjects interesting and exciting. I took out my graduation picture and saw her smiling face today. My sympathies go out to her family and friends and her students, she will be missed by many.

My deepest sympathies to Barb's family and friends.
I always told Barb that Thursday's were my favourite day at work because that was her typical volunteer day at the Canadian Cancer Society. Besides her competent and compassionate assistance on so many projects over the years, it was her wonderful smile and caring that truly brightened my day. Oh and her style - she always looked fantastic and brought colour to the room!
This photo is from the Relay For Life in London last June and she and her Hiker Chicks team rocked the track. She was also a core member of making that event successfully relaunch and a top fundraiser to top it all off.
Family was paramount for Barb - and friends were up there too. Barb gave us a window into that love by sharing her stories. I will miss her, we will miss her, she is already missed.

Katie, Marty, Bryan and Evert,
I’m so very for your loss. Barb was a delightful lady. Always smiling, and happy go lucky. I remember thinking she was one of the “cool moms”when we were little. She had a different pair of glasses on every time that I seen her, that matched her outfit perfectly! I know she will be greatly missed. I hope all the wonderful memories you shared together will comfort you in the days ahead and always.
