Obituary of Peter Robert William Evans
On a crisp winter afternoon, with a light dusting of snow, Peter Robert William Evans passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the age of 81.
He was married to his high school sweetheart, and true love, Janet (nee Ruddy) Evans, loving father of Jennifer (Peter) and Susan (Jondavid); adoring grandfather of Alexandra and Emma and predeceased by loving parents John and Florence and sister Daphne (nee Evans) Daly.
Born in 1943 in Farnham Surrey England, he immigrated to Canada, arriving in Montreal with his mother and father on May 5th, 1945. Peter spent his youth in Montreal and Pickering. Graduating from Pickering District High School, before pursuing additional studies at the Ryerson School of Architecture, followed by a Bachelor of Arts and Teacher’s College from Western University and a Masters of Education from Wayne State University, Michigan. A strong advocate for equal access to education for youth, Peter went on to become a beloved teacher, vice principal, and principal serving the Thames Valley School District for 30 years until his retirement in 2001.
Peter was a strong believer in community in all its forms, and enjoyed making meaningful connections with others whether through a round of golf, community service with the Mount Brydges Lions Club, or socializing with friends and neighbours. Known for his kindness, generosity, courage and resilience, Peter could always be counted on to lend a helping hand, an understanding ear, a kind word, or a well-timed joke (sometimes a real groaner!) or witty comment.
Peter lived life to its fullest, deriving so much joy from music and dancing, but most importantly spending time with family and friends. Peter enjoyed sharing his stories and imparting wisdom, as Peter would say: There are only three things that matter in life- family, friends, and health, although 4 holes-in-one aren’t too bad either!
The family will receive friends at the Elliott Madill Funeral Home. 22424 Adelaide Road, Mount Brydges from 3-5pm Friday, January 10, 2025. Funeral Service to be held at Caradoc Presbyterian Church, 8503 Scotchmere Dr., Strathroy at 11am on Saturday, January 11, 2025. Cremation has taken place.
