I met Doug and Dot over 40 years ago. Doug was a little intimidating at first. He had strong opinions about how things should be done, and didn’t mind telling you. But I learned Doug could be a softy too, as I watched him interact with his granddaughters.
He enjoyed his work of restoration, and had an enthusiasm, not just in the end results, but in the process, which, although I understood little of it, I couldn’t help but respect.
Like every couple Doug and Dot had their struggles, but I will never forget something that Dot shared with me, something that made me admire Doug immensely. I don’t remember the exact words, but the gist of it was that Dot always felt safe with Doug. If anyone gave her grief, he was right there supporting her, standing up for her, watching her back. I always thought that was such a wonderful expression of his love for Dot, and a lovely comfort to her. My condolences to Dot and her family. xo

We are sorry for your loss, we will always remember Doug's visit when we volunteered at the museum. He was always fun to chat with, he used to love visiting when we were running the trains in the back of the museum. However, I will never forget the time I came by after dinner to help trim some bushes. I arrived at 7:30 and by 11:30 that evening I got a message from Valerie asking where I was and if everything was okay, i think it was about 10 to midnight by the time I managed to get home. He took me for a tour of his garage and we talked for hours.
