Obituary of John Fekete

John Michael Fekete dear husband, friend, jokester and ladies man has passed away. He joined his ancestors on Wednesday Oct 12th, 2016. John loved his family with his whole being. He is survivedhis wife Anne (Turok) children Susan (Walter) and John;grandchildren Kim (Luke) Challis and KarenFekete; great grandchildren Liam and Amelia; his sister Mary Dunselman; chosen family Andy &,Cheryl Stockdill, nieces and nephews who are alL heartbroken by their loss but believe that hls spirit is finally freed. John is predeceased by his eldest son Michael, parents John &. Mary,sister Catharine (Michael Michalski), Theresa (Richard Small) nephew John Dunselman,John had a long love affair with basketball, football, Steve McQueen movies, Mars bars, Lays potato chips, Anne's apple pie & pear fritters, homemadejam and pickle preserves by dearest friends. His sweet tooth was the source of many experimental desserts that his family always loved. "Real red heads" factored as a special source of pleasure. He sourced locally grown foods long before the chefs made it popular. An avid gardener he found pleasure in growìng his cosmos and planting beautiful wild flowers which he often removed without permission from wooded areas. He was long frustrated in attempts to re-start that Northern Spy in his front yard.He was a master wood worker as anyone who was invìted into the family home would attest.John was generous with his time and would do anything to help his family or a friend.John lived his life according to Sinatra -My Way. He enjoyed all to it's fullest and approached each day on his own terms. He decided many years ago that he enjoyed laughing and joking more than being calculating. Along with Anne, he owned Christina General Store. They sold everything from cold cuts, blue jeans, records, groceries to hardware. This allowed John the best of both worlds business and people. He valued the time with people. He set aside time for his friends and was a man who set about to be of service to those he considered a friend.John hated a phony but one would never know if they were considered one.John was very active in all, if not every aspect of the community from Neighbourhood Watch to helping eat the chicken at the gatherings in Strathroy. He and Anne had attended church in Delaware for the most part and yet years ago John could be seen attending Churches in Glencoe and in Chatham, eventually making his home in Delaware where he became engrossed in different aspects of church politics and personal tithing labour.But John's truest path held him to being the general post master, newspaper & fruit stand operator, having the convenient hardware back room, most valued confidante & advice dispenser, grocery deliverer, official coffee maker, gas & diesel, coal oil and oil pump jockey. He was renting canoes, toppers, tent campers, well before it became popular. An official stop on the route of greyhound bus lines he and Anne also operated a fifty-acre farm with fifty head of cattle, then a larger bit of land.... complete with goats and attack goose! Everything held precisely and preciously by John - an artist, a good friend, UFO believer and loving father.Anne and her family invite friends to join them in saying farewell to John. As one friend said, it isthe end of an era. Arrangements are graciously being made through the Elliott-Madill Funeral Home (22424 Adelaide rd.,) Mount Brydges. Visitation on Wednesday October 19th from 11am to 1pm where the funeral service will be held at 1pm. ln keeping with iohn's wishes a private gathering at Cook's Cemetery Mount Brydges will be held at a later date. Memorial Donations can be made to Ducks Unlimited Canada, to save the wetlands.
