I knew Grafton when we both went to Central and then at Western when we took an economics class together.
What a 'gentle' man! I remember him telling me that he wanted to pursue a career in Theology so he could work closely with his community. Our paths only crossed briefly but I remember him vividly.
My condolences to his family.

Grafton invited me in to my very first circle. I came prepared with pen and paper. Grafton laughed and asked what I was doing. Taking notes, I said proudly. I don't want to forget anything. He laughed. If you are meant to remember, you won't forget, he said. I am forever grateful to Grafton and Eileen for their teachings. May you soar with the Eagles Grafton. I am deeply sorry for you loss Eileen. Love, Lila

Grafton and Eileen have had a significant impact on me and my two sons. It was an honor to sing with them in Wahahi:io, a Toronto -based water drum group. My boys and I took in stories, languages, and the teachings of songs and dances. Simply by being his authentic self, Grafton was a role model on how to behave with dignity, honour and respect. I imagine he must have lived through some difficult times but we never heard a single victim story. He always exemplified kindness to all and hope for the future. We will miss him but we will also always remember and celebrate the influence he had on us and our community. We are better people for knowing him.

Grafton was a valued part of the beloved Francis Sandy Theological Center community. When I began studies there in the late 1990's he has on the Board of Directors and would participate regularly in the learning circle. Grafton was an encourager and knowledge sharer. His humour was healing and an inspiration. Thanks be to Creator for the gift of his life. My condolences to family and community.

I got to know Grafton when he was an Elder and Knowledge Keeper at First Nations House of the University of Toronto and, as director of what is now Indigenous Studies, I hired him to teach a course on the Oneida language. What a fortunate hiring that turned out to be! It was unlike any language class I had ever experienced, focusing more on culture than on language and this taught me that language is really all encompassing.
Here is what I admired most about Grafton, in no particular order: his wisdom, his sense of humour, his love for his family, his care for his students, his ability to deal with difficult situations, his love of his language and all that language represented to him. He chose a difficult path, and made a real difference in the lives of many people.
Eileen, my heart goes out to you and your family.

Walk stately, walk stately in the time honored tradition of our grandfather's and grandmother's, walk stately, walk stately Grafton into the spirit world.
I am also sending my heartfelt condolences, love and light to Eileen, their daughters, grandchildren, great granchild, their whole family. Grafton worked at TMU in a part time capacity as our Traditional Counselor and assisted us in creating a place of belonging and care for our community and students. He was generous in sharing their knowledge, always ready with a story and his humor..and his laughter. He was one of my teachers and I so appreciate the gifts he shared with me, with our students and staff. He and Eileen were also part of the grandmothers and grandfathers circle I created to support our work early on in our development. They together modelled Traditional leadership.. working for the people.♥️
