Jean grew up on a farm near Port Lambton, Ontario. After attending high school in Wallaceburg, she went to teacher’s college in London, Ontario. She taught, full-time and later as a supply teacher, at various schools in Chatham and Middlesex County, including Standing Stone in Oneida. She then worked at the Mount Brydges library where she conducted a very successful Story Time for 3-5-year-olds before her mandatory retirement at age 65.
Jean married Stan on July 19th, 1952. They enjoyed a happy marriage until Stan’s passing in 2012. They operated a farm in the community of South Caradoc, close to Mount Brydges, where Jean lived from July 1952 until November 2022. Jean enjoyed a very active social life prior to the onset of COVID-19. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed entertaining and spending time with her family and many friends. Her many interests included painting, playing badminton and shuffleboard, crocheting, baking, reading, and volunteering. She played euchre regularly until COVID-19.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Country Terrace for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Jean during her stay there, and to the many friends and neighbours who performed various acts of kindness during recent years.
