Obituary of Georges Cyril Depont

Surrounded by family members, Georges Depont, formerly of Mount Brydges, passed away peacefully at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital on Wednesday, March 8th, 2023. In his 95th year, he is reunited in heaven with his loving wife of 71 years, Godelieve; his youngest son, Georges; his son-in-law Ron; and his siblings Albert, Arsene, Marcel and Rosalie.

Georges will be dearly missed by his children, Alain (Barb), Gee (Ann), Jocelyne (Ron) and Claudine (Rick).  His grandchildren, Vicki (Ken), Jason (Kelly), Krista (Clint), Mike (Karen), Shane (Taryn), Mark (Sharlotte), Elysha (Alex), Ryan, Leah and Trevor (Emily), along with many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews will forever cherish his memory, his wide smile, and the twinkle in his blue eyes.

Georges immigrated to Canada from Belgium in 1957 with his wife and two young boys to build a better life.  In Canada, he went on to have three more children.  Always determined, he built and ran a number of successful businesses.

You could always find Georges gathered with friends and family over food, sipping on a beer or a glass of red wine, playing cards, throwing horseshoes, and dancing the polka with his beloved wife.  He loved a good party and was host to many over the years at his homes in Mount Brydges, Shelter Valley, and West Palm Beach.  He will be remembered for his work ethic, his ability to always make new friends, his competitiveness, and the love he had for his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson’s Society of Southwestern Ontario would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.  A Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 18th, 2023 at 11 until 1pm at the Elliott-Madill Funeral Home (22424 Adelaide Road, Mount Brydges).  Inurnment Sacred Heart Cemetery, Mount Brydges at a later date.
