I met Leonard for the first time in July 1983. I was one of the tobacco primers that year he had to pick up in Delhi.
This was the start of a long and still ongoing relation with the Gubbels family.
It was hard working in tobacco, but Leonard had always time for a joke. Later during our regular visits to Canada the sense of humor never faded and he always got me with his jokes. Beside the humor, he had an exceptional memory. During the visits he could remember things and brought up discussions on what happened in 1983 and 1986. I was always welcome in Mt Brydges and it felt like a second home for me.
I’m still happy that I was selected to work for Leonard’s farm in 1983 and all the influences this had and still has on my and our life. That’s why he deserves a special place in my heart and we will never forget him.
We wish you all a lot of strength in this sad time. Our thoughts are with you all.
Rest in peace Leonard.

Peter and family I was so sad to see on Facebook about the passing of Lenard he was such a wonderful man I worked 9 years for his brother Hubert and spent many days over at there farm with the other newfies I often would see Lenard outside and would go say hello to him I loved listening to his stories and he always made me laugh.
