John and his siblings Mike and Susan, along with their parents were treasured friends since elementary school. Throughout the years we kept in touch, most recently via videochats. Every few weeks my brother Ulrich, his wife Erika, and my wife Anna would connect with John to reminisce about the good old days - even in discomfort, John enjoyed humour and joined in with bursts of laughter. These latest memories were the final chapter in a friendship that we will treasure in our hearts forever.
My dear friend, we will truly miss you and all the laughter you brought into our lives. May you now rest in peace with your family in the heavenly kingdom, and enjoy the banquet H

Karen, Kim and Walt. I was blessed to have been a friend of Sue's which lead to meeting John. As many people mentioned in their comments I also found he was always in a good mood and loved to see people.

I knew John in school. I was advised from friends who know John to send him pictures of the camp and lake. Where I spend my summers. So I did . I knew John's bother Mike. As he was in same class as myself. And his Sister.

My earliest memory of John was in Grade 7 in Melbourne. We became and remained friends over the years. We'd take a bus into London to shop and see movies and once after I moved to Calgary, John came out for a visit.(I suspect he'd been drinking on the plane!) We lost touch for a while but reconnected several years ago.
Whenever we talked, I was struck by his attitude. He never complained or blamed anyone or anything for his situation. We need more of that and John led the way.
Our condolences to Karen and Kim, his grand kids and extended family.

I worked in Windsor with John for many years. I started almost the same time. He was someone you were proud to say he is your friend. He was genuine and always in a great mood, no matter how much pain he was in.
We had some great times together for sure. He always had a contagious smile.
A funny memory I always remember was one of our golf tournaments, and John was sporting a new pair of white sneakers. I was driving our golf cart and tried to back up closer to him but ended up with my back wheel in the bunker. Unfortunately I had ro lled on John's foot in the mean time. I permanently scuffed his new runners. We laughed about it the entire day. So funny!
