Jean Kathleen Smith
July 23, 1916 – July 26, 2020
Jean Kathleen Smith passed peacefully at Victoria Hospital on Sunday, July 26, 2020, having just celebrated her 104th birthday on July 23rd.
Jean was raised in Mount Brydges on the family farm on the 20th sideroad and 4th concession, where she spent her happiest years working alongside her father in the fields and tending the animals. She later in life moved to London and worked at Woolworth’s in Wellington Square until her retirement. She was a resident of Cherryhill for many years until her move to long term care at Westmount Gardens. Her favourite vacations every year were spent at Ipperwash Beach where she watched many sunsets; often with one or two nieces, and eating an ice cream cone.
Remembered by many nieces and nephews, great and great-great in London, Oshawa, Peterborough and Winnipeg.
Predeceased by Marsha Jazey and survived by Danielle Jazey and Adam Mortezof. Jennifer Jazey-Thorpe and Shawn Thorpe and children Tyler and Samantha. Alex Jazey and his wife Jill in Florida. Patricia Daly and family: Madeleine and Jonathon Spencer and children Evangeline and Felix; Martha Shiell (Denmark); Mary Shiell and Justin Ellsworth and daughter Kasima; Meghan Shiell and Christian Gilbert (Val d’Or). John Daly. Keenan Daly and Sara Daly. Carolyn and Dennis Knievel in Winnipeg and family Jason and son Dustin, Corinna, and Lisa. In Oshawa, Rhonda Smith and Jon North and son Iain; Craig Smith and his wife Alex and Shayne, Tanner, and Jenny. Sharon Clifton Smith Russell and family Tracey, Kimberly, and Michelle and their families.
Jean was the last of her generation and is deceased by her parents Martha and Wallace Smith; her siblings and their spouses: Mary and Jim Daly, Weldon and Eileen Smith, George and Gerry Smith, and May and Les Martin; nieces Marsha Jazey, and Ann Daly; nephew Jim Daly; great-great-nephew baby Leo Gilbert.
Friends may call at the Elliott- Madill Funeral Home, 22424 Adelaide Road, Mount Brydges on Thursday, July 30th 2020 from 10am - 11am. A private family funeral service will be held at 11am. Interment Mt Brydges Cemetery, Wellington Street, Mount Brydges.
