Obituary of Helen Weaver

It is with great sadness the family of Helen Ann Weaver announces her passing on Mon. Sept. 04, 2017 at the age of 95 years young.  Helen was surrounded by her loving family during her brief illness in hospital.  Helen was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and was the daughter of the late George and Annie Robertson. During WWII while working in England at an underground munitions factory, while dining at a local fish & chip shop, Helen met the love of her life - a tall handsome Canadian soldier, Alva Franklin Weaver.  After a whirlwind courtship in England, the war ended and Alva returned home to Canada; however, their romance would continue long distance leading Alva to propose marriage by sending to Helen, via air mail, an engagement ring and a one-way first class ticket to Canada. Helen left her family and her life in Scotland to start a new life in Canada.  Helen and Alva were married in Chatham, Ontario on November 9,1954 and together raised their family.  Helen is survived by daughters Maureen Quigg (Dan) and Marla Neish (Andrew), and was the very proud grandmother (Nanny) of Rebecca, Sean, Drew, Matt, and Mitch (Brandi). Also survived by several nieces and nephews in Scotland, England and Canada.  Predeceased by her husband Alva, and sisters Bette, Maisie and Ena.  To anyone who knew Helen, you'll know how truly blessed we were to have her in our lives. She was a kind, selfless, fun-loving spirit who always made everyone feel loved and who taught us to always appreciate everything we have.  Helen's dream was to see the Toronto Maple Leafs win one more Stanley Cup.  GO LEAFS GO!!  Thank you to the medical staff on LHSC D7 for taking such good care of Mom during her final days and a special thank you to PSW Sheila.  An extra special heartfelt thank you to granddaughter Rebecca Eden for caring for her Nanny for many years.  Your family are forever grateful.
A private family graveside service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.  For those who so desire, memorial donations may be made to ARF Ontario or Thames Valley Children's Centre.
