Obituary of Richard Todd
Richard “Dick” Todd
Passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital, in his 81st year. Loving and devoted husband of 57 years to Mary (née Crawford). Dearly beloved Dad of Roberta “Bobbi” (Chris) Jacob of Waterloo and Lisa Todd of Strathroy. Predeceased by infant daughter Sheri Lyn (1964). Dear Poppa of Clare and Alexander Jacob. Survived by sister Donna Brown of Forest. Predeceased by brother Brian and sister Beverly.
Dick was born on Dec 30, 1936 in Kirkland Lake, and grew up in Forest. A dedicated teacher and principal with the Middlesex County School Board, Dick’s contributions to the community continued when he left work at the end of the day. He coached hockey in Mount Brydges, was an active member of the Mount Brydges United Church and Middlesex Community Living. He did all of this with his wife and friend Mary by his side. After retirement, they moved to Strathroy and continued to be active in their community and make wonderful new friends.
Dick loved playing sports: baseball, hockey, skating, canoeing, golf, curling. He was a talented woodworker. In later years, he enjoyed travelling in his RV with family and the Crawford cousins. But mostly, he cherished time spent with his two grandchildren – there was “nothing better than a hug from them”.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Dick’s life, which will be held at Caradoc Sands Golf Club on Wednesday, April 19 at 11 am. Donations to Middlesex Community Living would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Elliot-Madill Funeral Home, Mount Brydges, entrusted with arrangements.
