Obituary of Gwendolyn Elsie Forbes
In her 90th year, Gwen Forbes (nee Sims) passed away peacefully with family by her side at Strathmere Lodge on Friday November 8th, 2024. Loving mother of Bill (Janice) and Cathy (Greg) Smith. Adoring Grandma to her five granddaughters: Melissa (Jeff), Miranda (Brian), Brianne, Megan and Kaitlin. Great Grandma to Brayden and Bolton. Predeceased by her loving husband Gerry Forbes, her parents Issac and Pearl Sims, and her nine siblings: Mervin, May, Eileen, Doreen, Walter (Bud), Earl, Roy, Gord and Gary.
Gwen worked as a Legal Secretary in London for many years. She was an avid baseball player and baseball fan, and she enjoyed square dancing with her husband Gerry. She cherished the trips she took with her family, from cross-country train journeys to visits to Hawaii and Scotland. She was active in her community, in her Church and UCW group. She especially enjoyed the many family and friend gatherings at their country home on Coldstream Road.
Although Gwen struggled with dementia over the last few years of her life, she always enjoyed the company of family and friends and would rarely be found without a smile on her face. Thank you to the staff at Strathmere Lodge and Strathroy Hospital for their care of Gwen over the years.
Visitation will be held at the Elliott-Madill Funeral Home (22424 Adelaide Road, Mount Brydges) on Tuesday, November 12th, from 10 am to 11 am, where the funeral service to celebrate Gwen’s life will be held at 11am. Interment to follow Campbells Cemetery, Komoka. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Foundation of London and Middlesex (435 Windermere Road, London, Ontario N5X 2T1) or charity of one’s choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
