It is with great sadness that we have to say our goodbyes to an incredible man.  He was definitely one of a kind that always marched to the beat of his own drum.  To know him, was to love him.

Kenneth Robert Maes born August 30, 1954 to the late Camiel & Yvonne Maes of Mt. Brydges/Komoka Ontario passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 14, 2024, at Strathroy Hospital.

Ken grew up on a tobacco farm and always intended to follow in his father’s footsteps. His love for the farm life can never be undermined and he was immensely proud when he and his wife purchased the family farm.  This was indeed his happy place and he loved nothing better than to walk the fields and ride his John Deere Tractors around his beautiful farm, which he always referred to as his “piece of heaven.”  Once a farmer, always a farmer.

Ken always showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile.  He was probably the most resilient person we knew.

Ken was a soft spoken, gentle, kind soul, with a grateful heart and a strong loving spirit, adored by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.  He was the perfect example of “never judge a book by its cover” as he took great pride in his lengthy beard, sometimes much to the dismay of his wife.

Ken represented the essence of goodness and loyalty, always willing to do for others and be there when anyone needed him. His family will always be thankful for how he continually found ways to give of himself as a father, supporter, role model and friend.

Ken had great memories shared with his family and friends and cherished his time with all. Family to Ken, did not always mean you had the same surname. You know who you are.  He leaves behind so many good friends who will surely miss him especially on the golf course. He took great pride in having “the best friends a guy could ask for” and the longevity of his friendships with John Vanos & Joe Neves.

Ken says good-bye to his “rock”, his loving wife of 46 years, Donna Jean (German) Maes and his much loved children, James (Jamie) Camiel Maes (Kingsville Ontario) & Sarah Jean (Maes) Mantler (Ennismore Ontario).  He adored his daughter-in-law, Andrea Cross Maes and son-in-law, Michael John Mantler.  He cherished his dear Grandson Ethan Anderson Maes, who would jump on the tractor with him and light up his life.

Ken always had a multitude of playmates growing up on the farm with six siblings – Linda (Rick) Dennis, Don (Mary) Maes, Sue (John) Maes-Thyret, Doug, Betty (Gerry) Pichette & Mike Maes. He will be very much missed by his in-laws, David (Brenda) German, Kathy (Reg Gordon) Hickling and Cindy Denstedt.

They say when you lose someone great, the heart holds a special space for that person that no one else could ever fill in the same way again; and for all who knew and loved him, that space is reserved for Ken Maes.

Cremation has taken place.
