Obituary of Godelieve Irma Maria Depont

At her residence in Strathroy on Wednesday, June 16th, 2021, Godelieve Depont (nee Clearhout), formerly of Mount Brydges in her 91st year, peacefully passed away. Godelieve was and forever will be loved and cherished by her husband Georges Depont. She will be missed dearly by her children, Alain (Barb), Gee (Ann), Jocelyne (Ron), Claudine (Rick), and predeceased by her son George (1991). Her grandchildren, Vicki, Jason (Kelly),  Krista (Clint), Mike (Karen), Shane (Taryn), Mark (Sharlotte), Elysha (Alex), Ryan, Leah, and Trevor (Emily), along with several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her brothers Roger, Gilbert, Daniel and sister Jeannine and predeceased by her brothers, Hubert, Willy, and her sister Marie. Godelieve loved and cared for her family immensely. She was a fighter and survivor of many hardships, beginning in her childhood growing up in German-occupied Belgium, immigrating to Canada with two young children, the loss of a child, and battling diabetes and cancer. Her family and friends will always remember her for her hand squeezes, quiet yet calculated victories in cards and marbles, fortitude, stoic and hard-working demeanour, and absolutely delicious home-cooking. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Diabetes Association of Canada would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Friends may call at the Elliott-Madill Funeral Home, Mount Brydges on Friday, June 18th from 10am to 12 noon. A sign up through the Elliott-Madill website will be required due to Covid restrictions. A private family service will be held at 2pm at Sacred Heart Cemetery Mount Brydges with Father Thom Blondin officiating.
