Obituary of Peter Tountas

Panagioti (Peter) Tountas passed away peacefully at his home in Mount Brydges, on Tuesday, September 8th, 2026.

He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 61 years, Eleni (Helen), children Nitsa (Paul) Andres, Mary (Mike) Hay, and James Tountas as well as his grandsons Dorian and Isaac Andres. Peter is survived by his brother Trifona Tountas and sisters Georgia Anastiasiadis, Maria Vouros, Voula Panopoulos and Lana Tsamtsikas and was predeceased by his sister Angeliki Adamopoulos and brother Nikos Tountas.

Once dubbed, ‘the man who painted London’, Peter was a professional painter who decorated the homes of many both in London and in the Mount Brydges area, where he once ran an apple orchard with his family.  He was a man of integrity, quick dry wit, and a constant practice of helping friends and family in need.  Known to many as “Taki”, his sage counsel, sense of humour and deep love for his family leave a deep void in the lives of all who were lucky enough to know him.  He was a man of honour and faith, and our lives are poorer having lost him.

A private funeral will be held on Friday, September 11th, 2026, at the ELLIOTT-MADILL FUNERAL HOME, Mount Brydges. Interment Madill Cemetery, Mount Brydges.

All family and friends are invited to a memorial which will be held at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in London, Ontario on Sunday, October 18th.  A small reception will follow the service.

Peter’s family would like to extend their gratitude to all the physicians, nurses and PSWs who helped make his final days more comfortable.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital, 395 Carrie Street, Strathroy, ON N7G 3E2 www.smghfoundation.com or to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 131 Southdale Rd W, London, ON N6L 1J9 https://www.htgoclondon.ca would be gratefully acknowledged.
