Obituary of John William Vanderwerf

Suddenly on May 11th, 2025, John William Vanderwerf passed away at the age of 68. 

John leaves behind his two sons Krag (Casandra) and Blake (Nicole) and was the beloved Gramps/Opa to Byron, Leo, Anna and Mia. He was an animated story teller and had a generous heart; his humour and quick wit will be greatly missed.

Although John and Joyce were estranged at the time of his passing, they shared 35 years of marriage and many memories together.

He is also fondly remembered by his siblings Elsie (Dick Garrison), Bob Vanderwerf (Brenda), Kathy (Richard), Mary (Tim Williamson), Pauline (Chris Snedden) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Tina, Willem Vanderwerf and step-dad Bill Smith. 

John was born in Port Hope, Ontario on March 20th, 1957. He loved to travel and had lived brief periods in BC, Thunder Bay and Toronto before he finally settled in Melbourne. 

Cremation has taken place and a private celebration of life will be held with family at a later date.
