Obituary of Marion R. Hedley Smith

HEDLEY SMITH, MARION ROSELLA ( nee Thody)

Peacefully, at University Hospital, London, Ontario, on Sunday, Agustin 13, 2017, Marion R. Hedley Smith beloved wife of W. Allen Hedley (1963) and Aleck H. Smith (1998). Devoted Mother and Mother- in-Law to Jean Ann and Bill Knowles of London. Special Aunt, Great and Great Great Aunt to many nieces and nephews in the Thody and Smith families. Predeceased by parents George and Rosina Thody, sister Marjorie (Ray), Brothers Alton (Dorothy) and Cecil. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Dorothy Trevithick and Mary Thody. Allen and Marion ran HEDLEY MEATS near Mount Brydges for many years after the passing of George and Lydia Hedley. Following Allen's death, Marion worked at D.D. Crawford and Sons in Delaware and Loeb's in London. After their marriage, Aleck and Marion became trailer folks at Ipprtwash with his brother Bev and sister-in-law Shirley. Upon retirement, they became avid Euchre players, especially at the 533 Byron Legion on Tuesdays. Following Aleck's passing, Marion continued playing Euchre all over London and area, as well as travelling with friends and "her kids", Bill and Jean Ann. She later enjoyed special times with Joe Noxell and his family at the Cottage near Goderich and trips to Florida. After Joe's death, she had to sell her car - and the purchaser, Burrell Hooper became her next best friend and Coffee friend at Timmy's. Their families were terrific! SPECIAL THANKS to CCAC, Parkeood, McCormick Day Care, EMS and the Doctors, Nurses and PSW's on the 6th, 4th and 10th Floors of University Hospital. A very special thanks to her very special Dr. Susan McLaren who looked after Marion and Aleck for many years.
